Project description

The proposed project - The Northern Dimension and Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia - is devoted to the problems of spatial development of the only Russian enclave and strategy of its mutually beneficial cooperation with Nordic States. The present situation with Kaliningrad Oblast makes a new problem for theory and practice of international relationship in the Baltic Sea Region and in Europe as a whole. The project task is to find mutually beneficial fields of cooperation of Kaliningrad Oblast and Nordic States in economic, social and environmental spheres.

Activities:

  • Exchange of experience in spatial planning as an instrument of uniting economic, social and environmental factors of development;

  • Elaboration of programme of intersectoral and sectoral interaction between Nordic States and Kaliningrad Oblast;

  • Creation of the Kaliningrad Centre (polygon) for business contacts between Nordic States and 89 regions of Russia

Central objectives

  1. Promote multilateral and mutually beneficial links between Kaliningrad Oblast and Nordic States;

  2. Provide an exchange of experience in spatial planning policy making and stimulate partnership;

  3. Identify priority areas of economic and technical assistance and partnerships for future cooperation projects;

Expected benefits

  1. Programme of intersectoral and sectoral interaction between Nordic States and Kaliningrad Oblast;

  2. Enhanced possibilities of Nordic and Russian authorities in spatial policy related matters;

  3. Sustainable business contacts between Nordic States and regions of Russia in Kaliningrad Business Centre
