Links between TACIS and Interreg:

The proposed project aimed to build up close, permanent and active relationship between, Southern Finland region, St.Petersburg-Leningrad region, Stockholm-Mälar region, Tallinn-Harju region and Riga region, which together form the new co-operation network, the Baltic Palette Region.

Project activities:

  1. Developing transport network: road and railroads, ports, ferry connections and airborne traffic;

  2. Governance: collecting, interpreting and disseminating data on information society and using it for regional development;

  3. Developing and marketing congress and business tourism on metropolitan areas and culture and nature based tourism on coastal zones;

  4. Protection of the Baltic Sea by water quality systems based on the management of the river catchments areas;

  5. Planning and implementing polycentric urban structures and public transport by exchange of knowledge and training .

Parallel projects for BSR Phare CBC SPF (Estonia) and  BSR Phare CBC Grant Scheme (Latvia) will be submitted spring 2002.

Detailed description of activities:

1. Baltic Palette Transport Corridor Networks

Strategic focus of this activity will be the development of trans-national development corridors: removing of bottlenecks, development of roads, rail connections, ports, ferry traffic and airborne traffic. Results of activity are concrete strategies for implementing action – a program for transport infrastructure investment priorities in the Baltic Palette Region

 

2. Baltic Palette Information Society – eGovernance Network

Strategic focus of this activity is to collect, interpret and disseminate social-economic data on development of information society on the Baltic Palette Region and using this information in regional development and planning. Results of activity are: joint socio-economic database and virtual map office for analysing and presenting indicators of information society for regional development

 

3. Baltic Palette Metropolitan and Coastal Tourism Development

Strategic focus of this activity is to analyse, develop and market congress and business tourism on the metropolitan areas and culture and nature based tourism on coastal and rural areas. Results of the activity are: market analysis, supply study, product development and marketing material for the whole Baltic Palette Region

 

4. Baltic Palette Water Quality Management System

Strategic focus of this activity is the protection of the Baltic Sea by developing water quality management system based on river catchments areas. Planned result is a cleaner Baltic Sea by founding drainage basin based water quality protection organisations on the Central Baltic Sea Area (CBSA).

 

5. Baltic Palette Polycentric Urban Management System

Strategic focus of this action is to plan and implement polycentric urban structures and develop exchange of knowledge and best practices in urban management. Planned result is increased capacity to manage complex urban systems (incl. public transport) and to transfer knowledge and experiences between professionals responsible on urban management.
