Project description

Transfrontier Cooperation (TFC) today is one of main directions of the activity of the EastWest Institute in the Eastern and Central Europe where the Institute has accumulated rich experience for the last decade.

On July 1, 2000 the EastWest Institute began the Program of Transfrontier Cooperation in the Russian Federation. The primary goal of the program implementation is:

Promotion of transfrontier cooperation between the frontier regions of the Northwest of Russia and neighboring countries.

Due to the unique geopolitical situation and its potential the Kaliningrad Region is considered to be the main subject of the program implementation, the territory where the majority of the planned projects will be realized. The programme also covers the Pskov region.      

Central objectives

  • To elaborate a more favourable political atmosphere for the development of transfrontier cooperation in Russia;

  • To support regional and local development of frontier regions of Russia;

  • To consolidate a good neighborhood relations between Russia and its western neighbors;

  • To give leaders and organizations a possibility to increase proficiency and to develop skills of competent management, aimed at the promotion of transfrontier cooperation;

  • To present practical outcomes of the development of transfrontier cooperation, aimed at the improvement of living standards in frontier regions.
