Overall
objective
To
develop, test and implement techniques for spatial planning of
sustainable use of natural and cultural resources of large
lakes' regions, and for social and economic development of
rural territories (municipalities) and long-term conservation
of natural and cultural landscapes.
Short-term
goals
-
International
co-operation under the Baltic Agenda 21 (Sustainable
development: tourism) by adding the Russian component (The
Lake Ladoga) to the network of sustainable tourism
development on large lakes of Northern Europe (Norway,
Sweden, Finland, Estonia - Big Lakes 1 and 2)
-
Development
of legal and material and technical basis for the
development of natural tourism in the Lake Ladoga region
and in Leningrad region as a whole.

Sustainable
development (environmentally friendly development of
social and economic sectors) of municipal agencies by
means of organizing nature tourism on their territory.
-
Promotion
of the identity (proude and responsibility for the
territory) of the local people and of attractiveness of
the region for visitors.

Development
of cross-sectoral co-operation (authorities - business -
society) upon resolving complex issues of rural
territories' support.

This
project is a parallel for Interreg III B BSR project “Sensitive
Nordic Big Lakes/Big Lakes II”
submitted
for
1.10 2002 Tender.
The project partners are Lake Ladoga in Russia, Lake Päijänne
in Finland, Lake Vänern in Sweden, Lake Mjösa in
Norway and Lake Peipsi in Estonia as a Phare-partner.
