Project description

The project implies that the Petrozavodsk State University (PSU), Karelian State Pedagogical University (KSPU) and institutes of the Karelian Research Centre of the Russian Academy of Science (KRC of RAS) are joined into a local area network and shared information resources (digital maps, satellite images, official statistics, etc.) are compiled. This will serve as the basis for creating a corporate telecommunication system with information on the resource potential of Republic of Karelia, and facilitate the integration of information resources within the European North

Central objectives

The objective of the project is to collaboratively develop and use modern telecommunication systems (local area networks, distributed databases, geographical information systems, Internet) as the basis for promoting international integration, and to create a corporate information-telecommunication system devoted to the socio-economic, historical, cultural and natural potential of the Republic of Karelia in order to provide information to the society and improve management of the socio-economic development.

Expected benefits

The project outputs can be applied in:

  • development of the civil society.

  • promotion of the storage and search of information in the fields of natural sciences, culture, economy and sociology using up-to-date information technologies, hardware and software; modeling large-scale processes in nature and society.

  • research and education: application of research results in the academic process in order to boost the quality of education and variety of curricula, and promote their regional component.

  • management and administration: submission of research results to legislative and executive authorities of different levels to facilitate decision-making on the issues of the economy, national and social policy, nature conservation and education.
